Volunteers played a very important role in the civil war both in Union and Confederate Army. I would like discuss the motivation of the men in the Confederate Army. There was existence of slavery system in the South. They believed that they had the right to keep the slaves but most of the volunteers who fought for the Confederate Army did not themselves have slaves but in order to protect the slavery system which persisted in the South, the men choose to join the Army [1].
